Berner Studio began at a single bench in Arlington, Virginia with a simple conviction: create truly unique products on a per order basis by enabling the visualization process.
Every box is still made to order, by hand, from timber we select ourselves. No shortcuts — just slow, deliberate work meant to outlast all of us.
The materials
Maple
Pale and close-grained, with a soft ripple that moves as the light does.
American Walnut
Deep chocolate grain that warms and lightens with sunlight over the years.
Cherry
Starts a soft pink and darkens to a deep russet as it ages.
Padauk
Vivid orange-red when freshly cut, settling to a deeper brick over time.
Canarywood
A golden ground streaked with rose and amber — no two boards alike.
Yellowheart
A clean, saturated yellow that needs no stain to hold its colour.
Purpleheart
Turns from grey-brown to a rich violet within days of being cut.
Oak
Pale and open-grained, with dark mineral veining drawn through it.
